IN THE YEAR AFTER GRADUATING FILM SCHOOL IN 2014, I QUICKLY FOUND OUT THAT MY DEGREE WASN’T HELPING IN LANDING ME ANY SOLID GIGS. I HAD GOTTEN A P.A. JOB WITH THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF NEW JERSEY’S POST PRODUCTION OFFICE FOR A SEASON, AND WITH THE HELP OF A ROOMMATE I WAS ABLE TO WORK ON AND OFF AS A COFFEE/FOOD RUNNER FOR AN AD AGENCY. DURING THIS TIME I BEGAN TO HAVE INCREASINGLY CRITICAL AND FRUSTRATED FEELINGS ABOUT THE INDUSTRY AND WHERE I BELONGED WITHIN IT. EVERYTHING FELT HOLLOW AND TEMPORARY AND I HAD A LOT OF TIME ON MY HANDS. THIS WAS WHEN MY ROOMATE GINO AND I STARTED MAKING VIDEOS FOR PARTY AT DAVIDS.

THE CONCEPT WAS STRAIGHTFORWARD - A MOCKUMENTARY SERIES SATIRIZING OURSELVES AS CRINGY AND DEADBEAT CREATIVE TYPES ATTEMPTING TO MAKE IT VIRAL. A LOT OF IT WAS INSPIRED BY REAL THINGS THAT HAPPENED IN OUR LIVES AND WE THOUGHT A WEB SERIES AND SOCIAL MEDIA PROMOTION WOULD BE HOW WE COULD GET A LOT OF VIEWS AND ATTENTION. POSSIBLY LEADING TO MORE OPPORTUNITIES DOING THIS THING WE LOVED.

WHAT I FIND INTERESTING ON LOOKING BACK AT THE SERIES, IS THAT WHAT WAS INTENDED TO BE A MOCKUMENTARY HAS BEGUN TO FEEL LIKE A LEGITIMATE DOCUMENTARY OF THAT TIME IN OUR LIVES. WE WORKED REALLY HARD ON THIS PROJECT TO TRY AND PRESENT A FAILED FLASH IN THE PAN, AND IN THE END IT ACTUALLY BECAME ONE: WE STILL HAVE MINIMAL VIEWS, WE HAVEN’T MADE ANYTHING TOGETHER SINCE - DID WE CURSE OURSELVES? I DON’T KNOW. ALL THAT TO SAY, I WILL ALWAYS CHERISH THIS COLLECTION OF WORK AND THE TIME OF MY LIFE IT HAS COME TO REPRESENT.
